The Plan: A Classy x Trashy Weekend in Seattle, WA

From coffee to cocktails in Capitol Hill, let me save you from decision-fatigue and give you some places to check out!

In my opinion, Seattle is a city best experienced in neighborhoods. And this particular three-day weekend itinerary is for someone with a bit of duality ~ as in you love dressing up for a classy dinner and fancy cocktails just as much as you love hangin’ at a local dive and grabbing a slice after. I wanted this to feel intentional without being too overplanned — moving from Fremont and Ballard to Pike Place and Capitol Hill, with plenty of room to follow your mood.

Friday: Fremont + Ballard

(Neighborhoods: Fremont / Ballard)

On Friday, let’s plan to take it easy because Saturday will probably be a lot…

9:00 AM — We always start with coffee

10:00am — If you’re feeling particularly cultured

  • National Nordic Museum is a stunning peek into Scandinavian immigration, culture, art & history ($20 admission)

12:30 PM — Lunch time

  • Kwanjai Thai Cuisine for an easy lunch (or dinner) at a great Seattle staple ~ I recommend the outdoor seating if the weather is decent to people watch and enjoy the neighborhood’s vibrant energy

2:00 PM — More sightseeing!

  • You can visit the Fremont Troll under the Aurora Bridge just to say you did
  • Recharge a bit at Kite Hill near Gas Works Park

5:00pm — Then a pre-dinner drink (duh)

  • Olaf’s if you’re feeling something cheap and divey, or
  • Essex for a sexy cocktail bar (best paired with the following dinner plans..)

6:30 PM — Dinner at this sexy spot Ballard

  • Rupee Bar a fan fave (me, I’m the fan) for Sri Lankan/Indian-inspired plates + cocktails (walk-ins only). Love loved the Coconut Breaded Rockfish with a side of naan.

Note: They add a 22% service charge (good to know before you’re splitting bills).

9:00 PM — Drinks in Fremont (funky dive + photobooth)

  • Head to Bar House for a funky dive-bar night and hit the photo booth.

Saturday: Queen Anne → Capitol Hill

(Neighborhoods: Queen Anne / Pike Place / Capitol Hill)

9:00 AM — Pastries first

  • Nielsen’s Pastries near Queen Anne for a Danish pastry and neighborhood walk near the water. (Heads up: closed Sundays.)

10:30 AM — Touristy things

  • I don’t love to include a ton of super touristy things, but people love the Space Needle time. Book ahead if you can, and aim earlier to skip crowds.

12:00 PM — Coffee + browsing records

Pick your fighter:

  • Bonhomie Coffee Bar (no tipping—they redirect customer generosity into donations benefiting a Haitian nonprofit).
  • Caffè Vita at KEXP (coffee inside the KEXP space; with chill seating areas, very browse-y).

1:30 PM — Photo ops at Olympic Sculpture Park

3:00 PM — Pike Place Market + Gum Wall (optional)

  • Wander Pike Place Market (most of the market action is typically 10am–5pm, with some restaurants later).
  • Swing by the Gum Wall if you’re into that sort of thing (no judgment…).

4:30 PM — Lunch at The Pink Door (Pike Place)

Make lunch the main character here (though I typically prefer it for dinner)

  • Order the Linguine alle Vongole (baby clams, pancetta, garlic, chilis, white wine) — UGH.

Optional: The Pink Door offers aerial performances on certain nights (timing varies; check their entertainment details when planning). If you catch a performance, note that they ask guests for no pics/video during the show.

6:30 PM — Afternoon drink (easy, divey)

  • Black Cat if you want a cheap, no frills reset before the evening shift.

8:00 PM — Dinner in Capitol Hill

  • Ba Bar (Capitol Hill) for an incredible meal and cocktails, super kind staff — outdoor seating when it’s nice out!

10:00 PM — Drinks: Montana Bar → Hula Hula Karaoke

  • Montana Bar if you like something super divey in a fun area like me
  • Then Hula Hula across the street for karaoke and tiki drinks

12:00–2:00 AM — Late-night slice to close things out

  • Dino’s Tomato Pie for the finale — on weekends they’re often open late into that 12–2am window.

BTW, Capitol Hill parking is famously rough at night — tight streets, limited spots, maximum annoyance. I recommend taking a Lyft and enjoying yourself.

Sunday: U District to Wallingford

(Neighborhoods: University District / Green Lake / Wallingford)

10:00 AM — Café Canuc (U District sweet drink stop)

  • Café Canuc for this little lineup: Dalgona latte, sesame latte, plus tiramisu or strawberry croffle.

1:00 PM — Caribbean comfort for lunch

  • Bongos for Caribbean food in Green Lake. Huge portions, patio seating — you’ll probably need a nap after this one

6:30 PM — Dinner: Bizzarro Italian Café

  • Bizzarro Italian Café to end the weekend with something cozy and very quirky.
No reservations—be ready to wait at popular times.

8:30 PM — Drinks at The Octopus Bar

  • The Octopus Bar for another funky one. Solid nightcap to wrap up your Seattle trip!

That’s the weekend. Take what works, skip what doesn’t, and don’t stress if plans shift — they usually do! Seattle is best when you let the neighborhoods guide the pace (some are slower than others). If nothing else, you’ll eat well, drink better, and get a solid feel for the city by Sunday.
